Welcome to the Mukka Website
"What
an excellent noise" John Peel For full band biog and print-quality images click here. Springing from their love of Balkan and Arabic dance music, Life Life! is the most exciting example yet of Mukkas highly original and personal style of music. For the first time, Mukkas original compositions sit alongside their interpretations of traditional melodies. After a London club appearance at Gazs Rockin Blues, the Evening Standard wrote "A small corner of Soho exploded around midnight last night as Dana Cordorean Berciu, a Romanian diva with a line in angst-filled doina ballads provided stark counterpoint to the original but out-there instrumentals being wielded with furious abandon". On Life, Life! Mukka have re-invented the doina, traditionally a Romanian ballad of loss and yearning. Cine Iubesta is played at a moody pace, but is based on such an unusual rhythmic drive, that you could dance and cry at the same time. Life, Life! sees the return to the studio of the ever-present "Mukka Demon Double Violin Attack" Kate Hands and Frank Biddulph (sic Folk Roots), flute, accordion, bass and drums.
"Mukka expertly traverse klezmer, Turkish, Greek, Romanian and Bulgarian music with energy all the way" Folk Roots "Original but out-there instrumentals wielded with furious abandon" Evening Standard
